I have a SQL database with a blob field that contains a word doc. Is there a way to display the actual word doc? If I simply drag the blob field onto the report canvas nothing is displaying.

The only way I have managed this in past is to convert to RTF. And then read field with RTF interpretor.

However, if page is very large you must break it up into chunks of less the 66k characters(including rtf coding characters). Did that with a view.

How would I read the field with an RTF interpreter?

It would might require that the field becomes a memo field.

Then when you format field, on the paragraph tab the text editor option allows you to use HTML or RTF interpretation.

HTML is rubbish as it only has very old HTML syntax.

In the project I was working on the DB was Oracle and we had the RTF in CLOBs.

If the file is an external RTF, HTML or TXT file, you can insert it dynamically using our cViewTEXT utility. You could even link it to a file name you calculate from a database field.

Ian,

My database is SQL Server 2005,and the field is a data type of image. Is there a way to convert or cast this into a memo field? Might be a question for the SQL forum.

PS - I love that beautiful British word "rubbish". You never hear anyone say that over here.

Outside my area. Probably best to ask the SQL forum.

PS - Trash would not be the appropriate word for the context in which I used rubbish.

Ian

LOL - Ian what is the difference between trash and rubbish? Today isn't Halloween, its Educate a Yank Day.

Over here we only use the word Trash, when talking about wrecking or breaking something.

eg He trashed his room.

Rubbish has two meanings ie as a noun as per your Trash, or

an adjective to describe something which is not very good.
