Hi,

I am using Cognos Impromptu application for quite some time.
I want to display the values seleted or typed in the prompt, in the report (in a separate text box, say in the Header of my report). I am successful in doing so when the query returns 1 or more records from the database. My problem is that when the number of records returned by query is zero, the text box (in which I am displaying the values selected or typed in the prompt) remains blank.

Is there any way to Display the values selected or typed in the prompt when query returns zero records?
This will help me in knowing that for this period(or value) there are no records in the database.

Thanks in Advance.

Insert, More objects, Prompt variables, Insert, "your prompt"

These are the steps to get the name of the prompt in the header of the report. When I do this with the Great OUtdoors catalog, I get the name of the prompt in the header using Order No. for the item on the prompt. When typing '0' zero in the prompt, it shows the prompt results as being a blank report and the header shows the prompt name and the type-in "0" next to it.

Try this with the Prompts folder in the great outdoors catalog and it works just fine.

Thanks for help! I'm new to Cognos and I've been trying to figure this our for a couple hours now. I knew I should have gone to tek-tips earlier.

Hey no problem, but it took a year for you to see this. My posting was from July 02. That is funny!!! : )

That is a great point you have there. On the Cognos Knowledge base, you can't count on your answers to old questions being there in the future at all times. They seem to keep only the ones they think are important there. When you go to look up something, you aren't always going to find the answer you called about and resolved a year ago. Sometimes those things don't come up again for years. A nice thing about this site, is that, nothing is altered and things are preserved in their natural state.
