I am starting a small site for a local restaurant and I put a little style into their banner by adding an "outer glow" effect to it. Since GIFs can't handle the effect, I saved it as a PNG. Now comes the strange part; when viewed with any browser but IE it looks fine, but with IE the PNG is displayed with a light blue background. Check it out here:
I HATE INTERNET EXPLORER AND MICROSOFT!!!
[thumbsdown]

When in doubt, go flat out!

It looks as if IE doesn't support the transparency of the image...

AFAIK, Microsoft have never committed to fixing the IE/Win PNG transparency issue.

Strangely enough, IE/Mac has very good PNG support, including full alpha transparency - go figure!

It didn't really need to be transparent, so I changed it to the same as the background. Easy fix, but MSIE can be infuriating. Something looks great on every browser and then you look at IE and it looks like #$%@![mad]

When in doubt, go flat out!

There was an article about how to do this on A List Apart using javascript. There are also several other methods you can find by doing a google search for "png internet explorer" or something similar.
