I use IE6, Firefox and K-meleon and they all have the same problem.

I am using a fairly low spec machine which works fine for everything else except when an animated gif (like the one in the BT Internet login page) comes along. At this point, the whole machine grids to a halt. I type ahead and complete the login in about 5 seconds. The system is so slow that it takes 2 minutes to echo back everything I type. If I login before the animated gif starts, there isn't a problem.

How do I block only anmiated gifs on

IE6
Firefox
K-Meleon

I don't want to block all gifs as some sites, for the sake of prettyness (eg experts-exchange) are stupid enough to only have images with rollovers as buttons. If Javascript is disabled, you don't even see the button! I normally use K-Meleon as it is really fast and doesn't gobble up as much memory as IE or Firefox. You will really notice the difference in speed when you run on a 160MHz P1 with 64Mb memory.

Just had a look at the source code: forgot that I could do this. Problem is with so many .net websites where everything is just a call to some routine with a magic number, you can't see much. Anyway, it isn't an animated gif: it is flash. I've just disabled all flash and it is OK now.
