As you can see I'm pretty new at this. I have created the table and the form to go in front of the table. I want the user to type in a single piece of data from a row (primary key value)and upon pressing the enter key return all fields for the single record to the form for updating. This has got to be simple but after reviewing two Access books (and countless hours)I'm not getting it. Can someone help?

If this form displays all your records and you simply want to go to the record in question quickly, in order edit it, the simplest way is to place your cursor in the appropriate field of any record, press <Ctrl> + <F> and Find will come up. Type in the info and hit <Enter> and Access will go to that record.

How are ya sandec01 . . .

In Access Help ( Answer Wizard Tab ) type in [blue]auto lookup[/blue] and look for [purple]Create an AutoLookUp Query that automatically fills in data.[/purple]

I'm still having a problem getting only one record back - I'm getting all 23 records.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks, Cathy

I use an unbound combobox to have the user select the "single peice of data" and then you can query or dlookup to fill a form.

Or do the above as a pop-up then filter the form based off of the item selected in the combobox if you do not want to display the combobox on the form.

So I've tried several sugtgestions and I continue to get the following error message when trying to retrieve the record: "The changes you requested to the table were not successful because they would create duplicate values in the index, primary key, or relationship. Change the data in the field or fields that contain duplicate data, remove then index, or redefine the index to permit duplicate entries and try again." I have checked all the data in the primary key field in the table and have not found any. Any more suggestions?

If you are using a bound combobox on a bound form then you will get that error.

If you have a combobox for your primary key field when you select another item in this combobox you are not selecting another record but are changing the current record. This is why I said in my suggestion to use an unbound combobox.
