Display Wait Dialog

Hello
I have a problem that may take a little while to do its thing so I want to have a dialog box appear on top of my main application that tells the use to wait. I know I will need to have this "waiting dialog" on a seperate thread. I am just not show to go about doing that. Can someone please point me in the right direction?
