A few days ago everytime I turn on my computer and start it up it goes through the booting up black screens but then stops at the screen that says "its safe to turn the computer off."I restart it and it says "Windows did not start properly." then I can run it in safe mode. The next message is "The adapter type is incorrect or current settings do not work with your hardware."I have changed the settings but each time I start up again the same problem exsists. It takes about 4-6 restarting before it will stay in the correct display settings. I got a new hard drive in September, have Norton anti-virus and nothing new has been added recently. Any advice?

Sounds like your video driver has become corrupted. Boot to safe mode. Go to add/remove programs, uninstall any software for your video card. Then go to device manager. Expand display adapters, remove any listed here. Reboot, and if it does not automatically find the driver, you'll need your driver disk. Might be a good idea to download the latest drivers off the web before you start.

P.S. Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.
