I disconnected my 21" Dell monitor from a Sun Ultra 5 machine and tried to connect a 17" monitor made by Compaq. Both are VGA and have the same 15 pin video cable. However I do not get any display on the 17" monitor, but if I switch it back to the 21" all is well.

Any ideas on what I need to do to get the Sun machine to display on the 17" monitor?

Hi,

Maybe your current resolution settings are too high for the 17" monitor. Use

/usr/sbin/fbconfig -prconf

to check resolutions supported by monitor and change them (use "/usr/sbin/fbconfig -list" to get the device filename on which to apply and "fbconfig -help" to get how to change options).

After you changed the monitor. You can do boot -r to detect new monitor. Have you been done it ?
Good Luck
