Hi,
Thanks for viewing this post,
I have searched through to find help on this topic but didn't see any previous posts.
I have a Dell C600 it is running Win2K/XP. I have just installed a fresh copy of 2K. The XP is corrupt and would like to remove it and have a single boot system.
The problem now is when I boot to Win2K everything works, only problem is the display on the screen is only in the middle it doesn't open to the full screen size. It is half size, similar to the "center" setting in background pictures for the desktop.
I appreciate any help and time given,
Paul

It may be your resolution settings that can't get supported with the monitor you are using. Also check if there are any updated pertaining to your graphical card and monitor. Some monitors wont show certain resolutions until you upgrade the drivers to what ever is the latest. Post the monitor you are using by the way.

Download the relevant video driver for this model from the Dell website. That should probably fix it...

ROGER - G0AOZ.

This is too weird...the default VGA driver in Win2K is cruddy, but at least it's full screen. In Device Manager, Uninstall any Display adapters. Reboot. You should now be using the default VGA driver, full-screen. Load the correct driver and it should be fine.

Hi,
Sorry for delay in responding to this post. Thanks for your suggestions. Following are the results I found using your suggestions.

WingedTek,
I am using the laptop only and it is the screen on the laptop that is having the problem.

Lemon13, By screen resolution I assume you mean desktp/properties/settings....There are only 2 possibilites. One the viewable desktop on the screen is half size, the other setting it is smaller.

GOAOZ, I searched Dell for a relevant video driver using the Service Tag of this computer. There are no video driver downloads available.

Wanula, I went to.... right click My computer/properties/harware/device manager uninstalled video card restarted. Still does the same thing.

I tried to find which card is in that c600 laptop but even using the service code Dell doesn't want to tell me without a cost!!!

I've never seen a Dell yet that you couldn't look up by either model number or service tag and get drivet information FOR FREE. Give us the service tag number please and/or model #

According to this Znet review, the Dell Lattitude C600 has an ATi Rage Mobility 128 AGP 2X video card.

One of these should work for it:

Ignorance is not necessarily Bliss, case in point:
Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

Here's the info requested ,
Service Tag... 165FK01
Express Service Code... 25487003233
Latitude C600

vacunita,

I found the driver at the link you provided. Dl'd it to a cd (I don't have internet capabilities yet on laptop) and installed it on my laptop. It wouldn't install until I installed DirectX 8. I installed directX8, then continued with ATI 128 driver install. It seemed to go well until I got a message from Windows....."This display driver is not compatible with the display adapter(s) installed in your system.
:( Rather frustrating
I appreciate the help

I just tried to hook up my monitor from my desktop to the Laptop. On the laptop if I press Fn and F8 it allows me to view my laptop on the Desktop monitor. The first click of F8 on laptop displays the small 1/2 screen on the desktop monitor. The second click of F8 displays the full screen on my desktop monitor. So it seems that there must be a way to tell the laptop to do it to itself. Since it seems to do it to the desktop monitor......From half to full screen. ??
I also went to System Information and under problem devices it lists:
Video Controller
Ethernet Controller
PCI Simple Communications Controller.
It seems there is probably a video driver problem with my laptop as a few have mentioned. I just am not able to find a correct driver or even what card I actually have in this thing.

thanks freestone that did the trick. Also for the Latitude links very helpful.

Lemon 13 I'll try the driver download link soon and will reply the results
I have also found a driver @ W2KAO7.EXE ATI Mobility 3 / Mobility 4 Driver.

Thanks for all suggestions it seems to be coming together now:))))

OK driver worked system is up and running,
Thanks again for all the suggestions posted.
