I have a SunFire 480R and would like to display the memory modules. Need to know what the current DIMM size is and if there is any slots open.

We currently have the default of 4Gig.

When researching, it looks like with the 256 DIMMS (smallest) only half the slots will be in use.

I did see that A0 and B0 must be identical and you must replace in sections of 4.

Again, How can I display what memory modules are in each of the two CPU/Memory Boards? Or does the CPU/Memory board contain 2 CPUs and 16 slots?

Does /usr/platform/`uname -i`/sbin/prtdiag -v display the information you require?

also try prtfru | grep -i sun_part_no*
The prtfru command on some systems will give you memory part#'s along with most of the other part#'s in the system.
Once you figure out the part# you can determine the size of the memory and then compare it to prtdiag output and you can determine which boards have which memory.

and yes each system board has qty 2 cpu's.

Thanks

CA... any idea what OS versions and/or platforms prtfru is available on? I can't find it on any of ours, from Solaris 2.6 through 9? The closest I can find is /opt/SUNWexplo/bin/rprtfru.sparc in the Explorer package...

Annihilannic;

SunFire systems (not sure if it will run on all, but I have run it on v440's v1280, and I think my v880). Solaris 9 for sure and I think I ran it on 1 of my Solaris 10 boxes. Also systems with sc cards there is a command to look at the fru's and it also gives similar information.

I don't have any Solaris 8 boxes running so I can't check that. I would say Solaris 7 and older do not have this.

Thanks
