I'm using FM 8.0 and i'd like to display customer remarks from a memo (multi line) field in a simple report. I'm new in Filemaker and I don't remember where to specify to the field to grow and wrap on multi line.
Actually, that is the default behaviour for a text field. You have to take special actions to keep a field at one line. Just simply drag a corner of the field to the size you want and your users will be able to write a book in there if they choose.
I have one table with a field called “Remarks”. Sometimes it had one or two lines, sometime, 16 lines. I want to print this field into a report. And I can’t predict how many lines to print so I want it to grow to the maximum number of lines. I want to know if it’s possible in Filemaker.
What you do is make the field as big as you think you will ever need it to be and then select the field and pull down FORMAT > SET SLIDING/PRINTING.
Check the "Sliding up based on" box. That will shrink the box to fit the existing text. You will also likely want to "Reduce the size of the enclosing part". This means that the part (body usually) will shrink too.
So, the way to think about this problem (fundamentially speaking) in Filemaker terms is to think about how to shrink them rather than how to expand them.
