Hi, this morning I woke up and booted up my computer (Windows 98 P3 800) And it booted up into Safe Mode automatically!
So I shut down and booted up again, and this time I got the windows 998 Selection screen where I pick, Normal, Logged, Safe, etc, etc. So I picked Normal.
And it froze on the Win98 Logo screen, the clouds and the moving bar on the bottom.
So anyhow, I had to restart the computer again. It brought up the selection screen again. Picked normal, and it started. It was at the windows 98 startup logo for longer than usual but finally went to windows.
However, MY resolution and colors are all messed up. In my display properties it is 16 colors, and 640x480.
So I changed it and it said to restart, so I did.
ONCE again it brought me to the Selection screen, picked normal. Took long time at logo, then went to windows. My display is still 16 color, 640x480. It did not go into affect.
I have gone through these steps about 5 times. It is the same every time.

What can I do to fix this?? Thanks.

try changing you video driver to VGA. Restart, then reinstall your video driver.

Kib,

One of the best things about 98, is that it keeps a backup of the registry for the past 5 days, or more with ini file editting.

Try hitting F8 on startup, choose command prompt only. At the c: prompt, type:
cd\windows\command
then type:
scanreg /restore
and choose a date prior to the problem.

Kib,
I have had the same problem trying to set a screen saver. I was right clicking onto the desktop to get to the properties area to change the settings. It is a shortcut and works most of the time. For some reason it did not work that day. Who knows why? I finally decided to go the long route and went to settings, control panel, then to display and changed it there. I rebooted and it worked. I finally kept the same screen. I have not had that problem since. As I said, I have no idea why it was happening that day. You may not have used the short-cut I am referring to, but if so, try using the longer way around. Hope this helps. Good luck. Agape.
