Problem with Sis 630/730 Display driver (on board chip) in Windows 98 SE and Windows Me.
First boot of the day I only get as far as PCI device listing. I press reset and sometimes I get as far as windows screen, strip along bottom of windows is static,so I restart again. Sometimes now, Windows loads and display is correct. Other times windows starts up and I get message "Adapter type incorrect or incompatible driver" or words to that effect, and only get standard VGA display, 16 colours.
If I then reinstall driver, and restart computer windows loads OK with Sis Driver.
When I restart next time, however, all the same problems occur.
I have re-formatted my hard drive, and then installed Windows Me to see if any improvement, but still have the same problem. There does not seem to be any update for the driver, and I am using driver which came with my motherboard, and states compatible with Windows 98/98SE/ME.
Can anyone help please as it is driving me crazt!

Check for bad capacitors on the motherboard, see:

If all appears OK then I would possibly suspect the power supply, any chance of a swap out to test.

Any strange results showing with bootlog?

Give the wrong symptoms, get the wrong solutions.

I have checked capacitors, but unable to do swap out on power supply, however PC health utility shows no problems.
Regarding bootlog - Failed - INITcomplete failed = Sis630M
Loadfail= MVTrans.dll Failure code is 0002 (time estimated)
Latest observations:
1st boot : gets as far as verifying DMI Pool Data, PCI device listing and allocates IRQ as follows
IDECtrl =14
Serial Bus Ctrl = 10
Serial Bus Ctrl = 10
Multi Media Device = 5
Network Ctrl = 11
Display Ctrl= NA
ACPI = 9
Then PC hangs at this point.
I press Reset and choose Bootlog instead of Safe Mode and it then loads OK, with enhanced display, but bootlog shows the load fail as above.
2nd coldboot of day.
No load - halts at verifying DMI pool data.
Restart with bootlog, this time I get standard display and warning that driver that displays items on your screen correctly isn't working.
I chose change settings - no
Check boot log - same fail message.
Restart PC and it loads OK in standard mode.
Still going crazy!!!!! Help please.

Please note the previous thread is a continuation of original problem. Somehow I seem to have acquired two different handles and I am samhoods and piaff1.
