Why can I not see the serialnumbers in ACSLS when I'm doing a display drive??

Acs Lsm Panel Drive Type Serial_num

0 0 6 1 9840
0 0 6 2 T9840B
0 0 6 3 T9840B
0 0 6 4 T9840B
0 0 6 5 T9940B

ACSLS 6.1 and later releases report drive serial numbers via the display drive command and when the config drives utility is run.
However, ACSLS can only report serial numbers when the drives report their serial numbers to the library and the library reports the drive serial numbers to ACSLS.

The following drives and libraries report drive serial numbers to ACSLS.
So, ACSLS 6.1+ reports drive serial numbers for these drives and libraries:·

Drives: T9840, T9940, LTO, and DLT 7000 and later drives. (This includes SDLT and LTO Gen. 2 drives.

Note: Serial numbers are NOT reported by 9490 (TimberLine), SD3 (RedWood) and earlier drives.

Libraries: SCSI-attached libraries (97xx and L-series libraries) report drive serial numbers.L5500 libraries report drive serial numbers.

Note: 9310 (PowderHorn), 9360 (WolfCreek), 4410, and serial-attached 9740 libraries do NOT report drive serial numbers.April 9, 2003

How would the system know what the serial number was? You can sometimes see a serial number via the backup gui but I am assured by STK engineers that it's not the same as the actual number on the sticker.
