To help identify a computer on our network, our IT department/Helpdesk wants the ability for a user to browse to the homepage on our intranet and have an area on this page display the PC's IP address and computer name. Has anyone done anything similar to this?

We currently have a link that executes a cgi file that will open a new page that displays this info, but the department would like to just have it appear on the homepage instead of going to another page. Any help would be appreciated.

What's keeping you from using the cgi results on the main page? See Simple Ajax example for one way.
