I have to include information from a log table in all of my reports. I have to display as of date at the header of the report. The problem is that the log file is a separate entity and not joined with any other tables. How do i bring this one column, without joining it to other report fields? Please let me know.
Thank you in advance for you support

Report studio allows you to create a second query. Can you access data from the same package or do you need to use straight SQL?

Ties, thank you very much for your respond,
When creating the second query and then displaying the column on the header it start complaining that CROSS JOINS ARE NOT ALLOWED.
Then i had to create a list and display one column in a list query in the header. it does not look pretty. i wanted to create a report expression that looks nice on the header Maybe you know a better method?

The governor setting by default for cross join is set to deny. You can overrule this both in report studio and in the framework. However, normally a cross-join would exist within 1 query definition. Are you sure you created a second query?

I just build a report in report studio as you described. It is perfectly possible to show the info in the header in a proper fashion. Formatting is a very strong element in this tool!

Ties,
Did you create a second query, then created Layout calculation (based on the second query) on the Header of the Report? It did not happend for me, but i did not allow cross joins. I am oly allowed to display it when i create a list query in the header and then drag and drop the date from tthe second query there.if i create a layout calculation then i get this error: "An error on or around the position '0'. The variable named '[asofdate].[LATEST_REFRESH_DATE]' is invalid. " should i allow cross joins? is it possible to send you an attachment?

A layout calculation should be used for displaying run-time information like current date etc.
It is not for displaying query output I guess. A list can be displayed in the header without a problem
Why can you not display the data properly with all the formatting available?

i removed the title, but could not remove the box around the date. under the list properties, i removed collapse borders from the list table property and still see the box around the filed. if you know on how to remove this box, please let me know.

As an alternative to a list (which brings in column structures with headings etc) try using a repeater instead. You didn't specify whether you are using ReportNet or Cognos 8 - if it's ReportNet, you will need to set the properties of the Repeater to 1 across and 1 down.

Best regards,

MF.

Thank you Instructor for your valuable tip, it works perfect as a repeater!!! Much better then list.
