Disocvery cannot find any computers - SCOM 2007

I'm completely new to MOM, and am evaluating Operations Manager 2007 for monitoring our environment. I've setup a DC in it's own domain and installed operations manager (I know this isn't ideal, but I don't have enough resources to install everything on multiple servers. it won't be like this in the live environment) which went pretty much OK once I got all the pre-requisites right.

This DC is the only computer in the domain at the moment, so I'm not too sure if that's my problem - but now that it's come to discovery, I can't discover the server !! Even if I specify the computer name it doesn't discvery it. Is it because it's already listed under management servers and therefore cannot be listed under agent managed servers also?

Also, I've added in a router into the network devices - how do I go about applying an MP to that router? If anybody has any pointers on where to read up on this I'd really appreciated it. I read the white papers and watched recorded webcasts about all the different stuff that SCOM can do and how to install it, but now that it's installed I'm a bit over my head as I can't figure out in what order I need to do things. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi there,

absolutely, if you've installed the RMS on it (1st management server), it won't show as having an agent on it.

Re: Network devices, you can't add an MP to it, as it's a device, but you can use a proxy server to interact using SNMP.
If i was you, i'd start with the windows monitoring side, then build up to network devices!
Also, upgrade your test env to SP1, it's more stable, and adds some functionality (if you haven't already).

Another tip, access the newsgroups for OpsMgr - not sure if i should be linking to them, but it's:

microsoft.public.opsmgr.general - there are a lot more of them, (.reporting ; .sp1 etc etc

Any more questions, i'll be happy to help

Nick
