I am getting an error message when I bring up DiskSuite's Disk Manager Tool. The message is "Slices c6t1d0s5 and c6t0d0s5 are both in use and are incompatible."

These slices are not part of the same metadevice. They are both part of two different mirrored devices.

My MetaDB device appears OK. I am running Solaris 7 on an E450. Disksuite is 4.2.

Does anyone know what this error message means and what I should be doing about it?

Thanks for your help.

Do a metastat -p and then a metastat. Do you see any discrepancies?

Each of these stripes are submirror of different mirrors.

They are different sizes, but they don't need to be the same size just because they are on the same controller, do the? One of the stripes is actually larger than its "companion" stripe in the other submirror of its mirror. That is the only discrepancy I see.

By the way, this problem came up after I moved data by creating a third mirror, resyncing and then breaking one of the first two mirrors away. I booted the box after I saw the problem. The MetaDB came up with a critical slice, which I deleted. (I had about 5 more slices in the MetaDB.) The MetaDB now reports it's OK.

I'm starting to wonder if this really is a problem. The message appears when I double-click the name of the controller in the first window of the Disk Manager tool. This is the same as selecting the Properties command. If I just click the + sign, I don't get the message.

Do you think I was worrying too much?

I never use the gui tool. I always use the cli.

If you do a metastat command and it reports all ok,
then I would trust that info. Look in the messages file for any error(s). If you don't see any incidents then you are okay.

Thanks for your help.
