This is from a v240. Obviously another disk failed and needs to be replaced. Since my last
episode with this scenario was a disaster, please advise what to do. I checked
V240 user manual and can not find the procedure for removing the disk properly w/ Disksuite
running. Please help.

Is this a boot disk or does it just contain application data? I suspect the former since it's d0.

Have you tried a format /dev/c1t1d0s2, analyze and then read? Sometimes this repairs disk media errors and you can simply use metareplace -e c1t1d0s4 to remirror the disk.

I should say, to remirror that slice. Obviously you will have to do this for each metadevice on that disk.

Damn, I'm having a bad day. :-/ metareplace -e c1t1d0s0, NOT the metadb slice. Sorry!

do i need to power down the machine before removing the disk?

v240 owner's guide instructs to do a cfgadm unconfigure, but i'm not sure what to do if disksuite is running.

Have you checked the disk with format yet?

If it really has failed then it makes no difference to DiskSuite if you remove it, as far as DiskSuite is concerned it has gone anyway.

So, perform steps 1-5 of your "revised" procedure in the other post
No need to do the newfs for reasons described in that thread. If it's a boot disk, make sure you install the boot block as also described in that thread.

Then do steps 7, 8 and 9 as described in that thread. I can see nothing wrong with that procedure; did you figure out where it went wrong last time? What did you (or your boss) have to do to fix it?

Here is a link that we found very useful:

Only power off a system if you have to open the box. I believe the V240 has a plastic door you can open to access the disks.

Delete the stale State Database Replicas, detach the failed submirrors from the metadevice (using -f to force it), then use the metaclear command. Now you can use the "cfgadm -c unconfigure" command before 'hot-swapping' the disk. Run the "cfgadm -c configure" command when the new disk is installed.

I hope that helps.

I have no idea why we keep having disk problems. We rarely had issues like this from my last job. However, these v240s are refurbished.

format command is unable to see disk c1t0d0. Currently, this machine is running on c1t1d0 and they are mirrored.

c1t0d0's device alias is disk0 and c1t1d0's device alias is backup-root. do i need to boot to backup-root first before i do a metareplace -e cxtxdxsx?

I really miss having a sun contract :(

No, you don't need to boot to backup-root first...you're already running off it so the situation wouldn't be any different. You may only discover that it isn't a bootable disk!

Once you have completed the replacement procedure you may want to test that you can boot off both disks.
