Hello all,

This appears to be a well kept secret, but I want to set up a diskless client system. I have Solaris 8 built on the machine which will act as the boot server but how do I configure it to boot diskless clients over the network?

Any help/pointers to helpful documents is much appreciated.

why install diskless clients in 2002 after christus ?? -----------
when they don't ask you anymore, where they are come from, and they don't tell you anymore, where they go ... you'r getting older !

Say what?!?! Did I mention I'm also a Solaris novice? What's christus?

I think jamisar is meaning the equivalent of 2002 AD, inasmuch as he's surprised that you're considering diskless clients when fully-specced PCs can be bought cheaply. Correct me if I'm wrong, Jamisar! Cheers.

smart, but what if you wish to test 50 sun workstations without installing a local copy of solaris on each?

deetee, if you have 50 same ws to test, install one disk
and migrate it from ws to next ws.

deetee2k,

Diskless sounds like a good idea to me for what you want.

I imagine the procedure is similar to setting up a jumpstart server... I think you need to set up an installboot image on your boot server, share it via NFS, and then set up the clients to boot net by default in the PROM.

Sorry for the lack of detail, but I hope that gets you started. Annihilannic.
