In my aix4.3.3-10 box, the error log entries listed

errorlabel : DISK_ERR4

temp,Hardware error for hdisk1. (hdisk0 and hdisk1 both mirrored).

How should i go about fixing this problem? is it harddisk problem. I know that i should go for diag for testing the device. Really we need a down time for perfomring diag on this device.

Can anybody tell me steps to perform (consedering risk & impact )

Thanx in advance

Hi

Stop mirroring for a while till you fix the hdisk1.
(hope hdisk0 is real rootvg and hdisk1 is mirrored)
After fixing it start the mirroring.

hi,

this is a temporary hardware error , probably come across a bad black. On ibm disks , about 5% of disk is reserved for re-allocating bad blocks , this is probably your case .
what we would do is monitor your system to see how many errors you get , if you get a lot of these errors then your disk is about to go bad , so you need to replace it .
if you've just got one error , then monitor it for the time being.

DSMARWAY is correct it is a temporary error. Nothing needs to be done unless you have scads of them continuously, there is no need to unmirror your volume group and would not recommend it, there is nothing to fix.

hi guys,

i did the following :

1. unmirrored the volumegroup
2. reducevg ; removed hdisk from vg.
3. performed diag on this disk . found unrecoverable error.
4. replaced hard disk with new.
5. mirrored the harddisk.

now its ok. Thanx for all your sugessions.
