Hi ALL

We have just had two new disks added to our sun box!!

Question: Do we neew any paramaters/switches adding anywhere to tell solaris 2.6 which speed to write/read at?

QUESTION: If so what are they and do they differ on solaris 8.

QUESTION: I have also been told (but i think i am being blagged) that if i use longer mount point names such as /user01 this can mean poorer performance?

SORRY ABOUT ALL THE QUESTIONS. BUT ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

Questions are fine :)

You'll find a good deal of Sun specific expertise in the Sun (or Solaris) forum here on tek-tips.

Your questions though.

Optimizing disk access is quite an involved process, it means knowing what kinds of things the disk will be used for. If it's used for a few large files (for a database for instance) then you'll create filesystems on that disk specifying different options to those you'd use for a filesystem containing lots of little files. Best place to ask this is in the Sun forum itself I think.

Mount point name lengths and performance.
Yes -- you're being blagged.... Ask to see proof. :) Mike

I never could get the hang
