Folks,

I am using Metaframe1.8 here. I have a 4Gb C drive and 16Gb Drive which is kind of standard setup. Syetem files on C and data, applications on D. The problems I have here are the user profiles. The user profiles are on C drive. Some users store their personal data (.pst) under there. I am having C drive space shortage problems. I am constantly going in there move some of the files to D drive. But still can not solve the problem. Now my question is how do I make my C drive biger? I have a lot of space on D drive. If I built a new Citrix server, can I make my C drive 10 Gb? So I don't have to worry about the user profile use too much of the C drive space?

Thanks in advance!

Its highly recommended to have your users store their personal data off of your main system drive, no matter what operating system your using, but in the case of Terminal server, its even more important,I have all my users personal files stored on what they see as a "W" drive, which is an allocated space on a seperate NETAPP server, all of their windows and custom settings are also stored on that mapping, allowing them to save create and manipulate in their own little part of virtual land and not having to worry about them trying to save the entirety of their HDD (yes had a user want to make a "live backup" before, not to mention another attempting to email the contents of a music CD because it had some "cool new grooves that the sales department wanted to hear..." something not quite right with accountants im sure... ;-P ) anywhere near critical files.

This can be achieved with scripting, let me know if you need any further details.

Hope this helps. Steve Marshall

When a user starts a Citrix session a local profile is created in the windows profiles directory, even when the user has a roaming profile which is stored else where. How does one change the location of where local profiles are created? or can local profiles be switched of on Terminal Server? These local profiles use up the C drive as well.

Local profiles are locally cached copies of the roaming profile, which must be created locally on the Terminal Server that the users have logged into. That is a large part of how it works.

If user files are kept out of the profile, then this is not necessarily an issue.

My recommendation is to keep profiles below 5mb - although I always try to get 1.3mb (the smallest I have seen).

This can be done in a policy file, and via reg hacks in the default user profile.

The biggest culprit is temporary internet files. These should never roam with the profile. Neither should user work files. These should be stored, as Nostferatu says, on a separate file server.

You could set up a batch file that clears down the local profiles directory on a periodic basis - maybe as part of your regular reboot cycle.

Hope this Helps
