Hi,

In the error report I have one message :
SSA_DEVICE_ERROR

DISK OPERATION ERROR

I'm wondering does this mean a total disk failure ? We had
disks fail before but the error report has usually had multiple messages complaining of I/O errors, physical partitions marked stale, mirror write cache write failed etc. Whereas this is just one error message and no more.

I checked and there's no stale partitions either.
Would it be usual for this error message to appear when the problem could be anything "other than" a total disk failure ?

Hi. What does errpt -a tell you? There are several threads dealing with SSA_DEVICE_ERROR, for example Thread52-243565 which recommends using diag to investigate.

If this doesn't fulfill your needs, try a keyword search in the forum for SSA_DEVICE_ERROR

The disk hasn't failed ( you would get PV_MISSING ).Run a diag on the disk ( certify ) for now.Be sure also to have the latest ros level on your disk, this sometimes causes to gives to kind of errors as well.

Error code: 31000
Failing part: Disk drive module (100%)
Description: The disk drive has been reset by the
attachment. The disk drive might be going to fail.
Action: If the disk drive can still be accessed, the user
should create a backup of all the data from this disk drive,
then remove the disk drive from the system configuration.
Exchange the FRU for a new FRU.

DukeSSD,

Thank you on behalf of billy1 :)

I just need to ask you about the way you got the error code out of the above? I'm really interested in translating the Error Code area!

Thanks

Regards,
Khalid

SSA errors are a bit of an oddity.

As far as I am aware the following only applies to SSA related errors and even then not all of them, so handle with care.

Look at the beginning of the sense data:
2310 0000 002A 0001 8ED2 0000 00D8 etc.
The SRN (Service Request Number)is the last 5 of the first 6 digits of sense data.
So take the first six: 231000
Knock off the first one: 31000
This is your SRN.
Then you look 'em up in the book.

For the newest adapters, 6225 and 6230 use:
Advanced SerialRAID Adapters User's Guide and Maintenance Information

For the D/Txx disk drawers use:
7133 Models D40 and T40 Serial Disk Systems Service Guide

This is a disk error so look in the 7133 book.

Diags should also give the SRN.

Looks like it is 36GB and in slot 11, round the back with the cables and stuff, 3rd from the left.
