I have a E250 server with 2 hard drives. I need some info on how to set this up for disk mirroring. There are no RAID card with the server. I'm new to Sun Solaris and hopefully someone can answer my questions. Running SOL8.

I have used least 3 RAID software packages on Suns

Sun Disksuite is a Sun product that works entirely in software

Sun RAID Manager 6 (the very poorly named rm6) works only on hardware RAID controllers

Veritas Volume Manager can work with either hardware or software RAID, but is not by Sun, although it is included in some Sun hardware RAID products The one thing you can't give for your heart's desire is your heart. - Lois McMaster Bujold

I would use the Disk Suite package if you are only going to mirror. It is free and I beleive its on the one of the CDs included with the installation media or download from sun.com

Solstice DiskSuite (SDS) is on the Solaris installation disk 2 of 2 in the EA directory.

Do a find for SUNWmdg then install all the packages from that directory (about 6 or 7).
Then load patch 108693-07 or later.

Steve

Solstice Disksuite is part of easy access server, which is a separate cd along with the solaris 7 media. I belive SDS is part of the solaris 8 installation media. :)
