Hello everyone,
I am using MS Word 2003. If I have made any changes to the VBA code in either the Normal.dot or my other Global template (MyGlobal.dot), then when Word tries to save the changes to either of those templates, a message about the disk being full pops up and the changes are not allowed to be saved. I know for a fact that the disk is not too full. If I click OK on that window, a SaveAs window pops up and seems to offer the option of saving the template with a different filename, but even when I try to do this, I get the "Disk Full" message again. The only way to close out of Word is to cancel all the saves. I have attempted some of the solutions that I have found like first deleted all the left-over temporary files Word leaves around when it crashes. But to no avail. Does anyone know what's going on here?

Hi DrGreg,

I hope you haven't been working on a document located on removable media (eg FD or near-full USB drive). The error message you're getting is a typical consequence of that, even once you close the document and try to update a template.

Working directly on removable media is a short path to document corruption.

Cheers

No. I have been working on my laptop. However, I do use my laptop both at home and at the office. While at the office, I connect up to the Network, but I don't think that should affect my Normal.dot template because that is on my laptop.

I do seem, however, to have resolved the problem (knock on wood). Here's what I did:
1. I copied each VBA module into separate text files and saved them.
2. I deleted both the Normal.dot and my Global template.
3. I recreated both files from scratch and then
4. Recreated the modules and copied the plain text back into each module.

I also followed Phil Rabichow's recommendation for deleting and recreating the Word Data Key as found in Savikas' Word Hacks, pp. 175-176.

It appears that I either had a corrupt template or a corrupt Data Key--not sure which--but this solution seems to have taken care of the problem... Again my fingers are crossed.
