None of the max values (# of Data cyl; physical cyl; data sectors/track; RPMs) come close to the ST39216N Seagate with SunOS 4.1.x. 1)How do I format properly to maximize disk size? 2)How to Partition correctly? I heard there is a 2GB max file system size with 4.1.x. 3)Will incorrect format values cause problems?? HELP!!! I can't upgrade the OS because of old military H/W.

Thanks in advance.

Hi

Good question, as far as I remember SunOS 4 have a 2GB limitation unless you put your hands on disksuit which can increase the limit.

The other problem with SunOS that it might timeout on big H.D while dooing format.

1) Max partition size is 2GB, you can create few partitions and mount.

2) Running format and going into partition.

3) Usually not, RPM doesn't matter, the rest might change your disksize.

That is correct SunOS does have a limit of 2.1GB per partition. You will have to make 5 partitions (4) 2.1GB and the remained on the last one. Be sure and leave partition (C) alone it is the whole disk. I would also not use (A). I would use D,E,F,G,H
