Hi. Having trouble with formatting the Hitachi 1Tb drive in a D-Link NAS. It stops at 94%.
D-Link says to test it inside my PC, and see if there are bad sectors.

Hitachi has a "Disk Fitness Test." But it's a nuisance to get to work for me, it's just difficult to boot from and generally hasn't worked for me.

Wondered if there were any Windows Vista products that would do the same thing?

Thanks!

You could just try doing a full format followed by a checkdisk, selecting all the 'thorough' options. I'm not sure how you do the latter under Vista but under XP you right-click the drive in My Computer, select Properties, click on the Tools tab then click Check Now under Error Checking. There's a tick-box for 'scan for bad sectors'.

The full format should fall over on most errors but if it doesn't, checkdisk should identify any problems.
