The problem started when I attached a new logitech wireless keyboard and mouse to my windows professional workstation without even installing the software that came with it.
Upon starting the computer, it gave blue screen so I removed it and used the legacy keyboard and mouse which I have been using. I booted and finally it said boot error I should insert a bootable disk.
I tried to solve the problem by using the recovery console butafter running the setup, it finallly said Disk error I/O error status=00001000
Any idea, the hard drive is maxtor 30gb

Go to your hard drive mfgr website and download their hard drive diagnostics software and run it and it will tell you the condition of the hard drive and possibly repair it if needed.

System49;

Most everything I've looked at points to a dying drive, except for a few exceptions where it was the boot sector that was corrupted.

Before giving up on the drive totally, boot from the install disc again and enter Recovery Console. Run "fixboot /mbr" as others have said that it has resolved this issue. Even if you didn't inatall any software for the new hardware, Windows will try to install drivers if it finds one it thinks is compatible. This may or may not have contributed to the problem.

Give the fixboot /mbr a try and let us know how it works out.

Did you run the hard drive diagnostics yet? That would be a good idea. I also think it is indeed a problem with the drive, but pcs are tricky, thats why this forum is here.
