Does anyone know the capacity of the largest drive I can install on a SPARC 10 running SUN OS 4.1.3? I would like to increase the size of my drive from 1Gig to 4Gig if possible but format does not seem to like the drive.

Solaris 1.x (sunos)

max size of a file is 2gb
max size of a file system is 2gb

I think there is a patch so format can be done on a larger drive. I will look around for that.

But when format is able to see the disk the disk will have to be paritioned into 2gb file systems.

Is the disk seen at the ok prompt by a probe-scsi

Format see's the drive but when I configure it with other, using sector/cylinders and rpm on it, it says that 7200 is an invalid rpm. Default is 3600. Probe-scsi see's the drive ok.

Your best bet is to upgrade to solaris 2.6. Sun OS can run up to a 9GB.
You must be careful and get a drive that Sun supports.
I would talk a third party dealer like What brand is the drive and model number.
