Yesterday I finally managed to upgrade from XP to Vista Ultimate after a few problems I encountered along the way. Today I decided to uninstall some programs that I no longer needed. So I first started uninstalling Corel Paint Shop Pro X. Halfway through the uninstallation process I got the BSOD and the system promptly rebooted itself. Except the system didn't boot up because I got the error message "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER". So I loaded my Vista DVD into the drive and pressed enter but the same error message came back. What can I do to resolve this?

To use Startup Repair (From the Help Program)

"If you have a Windows installation disc:

Insert the installation disc. If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or DVD, check the information that came with your computer.

Restart your computer.

Click the Start button , click the arrow next to the Lock button , and then click Restart.

Choose your language settings, and then click Next.

Click Repair your computer.

Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.

On the System Recovery Options menu, click Startup Repair."

You don't say whether you actually booted from the DVD after the error. If the above doesn't do anything, perhaps running ChkDsk /r from XP's Recovery Console might do some good?

I found that a lot of programs out there are not even close to Vista ready. If you actually upgraded, as in overlayed your XP, I would recommend you wipe it clean and install it fresh from the ground up.

A lot of software doesn't install properly, nevermind uninstall in Vista right now. Pick your programs try and stay away from Corel products. They barely work on Xp nevermind Vista.

Further to that, parition your drive and have a storage drive. That way if you have to redo your Vista because it will be a shakey few months for vendors to catch up, you can simply wipe and re-install without having to worry to much about your data on the other drive.
