I inherited care and maintenance of a Sharepoint Portal. On the main page of the portal is a web part called "Discussion Groups". Overall, it sees very little traffic, but there is one thread that has over 900 replies. Each week, each employee writes a brief weekly report in this thread. Over time and as we add more employees, this is adding up. I have been asked to find a way to speed things up.

The obvious (to me) solution is to break up the replies into several discussion groups, probably by month. Currently there are 5 months of "discussion" and access is very slow.

I thought I added a new Disscussion Group to the page, but it turned out to be a duplicate of the one already there. Can anyone suggest a way to speed things up? I have been searching the internet and a reference book all afternoon and have not found anything related.

Thanks,
RosalieM

Try this, click on the discussion. Go to modify settings a columns, go down to views and click on the view you are using. You can limit the number of items to display. This will probably speed up the page loading.

Thanks for the tip. I wasn't aware of that feature, so I tried a few variations. I tried 5/page instead of the original 20/page. The big thread is towards the bottom, so the first few pages did indeed load quickly, but the page with the big thread took as long as ever. Since this seems to be the thread that is used the most, that is the one I'd most like to speed up.

I will keep checking around, if you have another idea I'll give that a shot.

Thanks again.
