I setup a discussion web and have it working fine but I have 2 questions... 1-How do you go about purging postings?, I have tried deleteing the html from the discussion folders, but contents still displays them. 2-How does someone answer a particluar posting? I don't see how a person can relate the response to the post? I'm not sure if a response button is missing or what.
Thanks

IMHO FP forums just don't cut it. They take longer to learn to set up (even with the wizard) than it would take to learn how to install a cgi script and when you're finished you can't really tweak them easily unless you do it all in the code.

Two solutions: Either go to cgi-resources.com and take the cgi plunge (be careful, it's addicting) or go to and try Message Board II which is decent looking, lets you choose from multiple color combinations and use your logo. Best of all, you can have it on your site 5 minutes after you read this.

Good luck

I disagree with Bunni's response - Front Page discussion webs are SIMPLE to setup! Besides, Bunni failed to address your questions directly. CGI is great, but there are a variety of productivity tools out there that don't require coding - i.e. Front Page.

Response to question one:

In the web where the discussion web was created, a folder bearing the name that you gave the discussion web during the setup wizard was created. This folder contains all posts to the board. If you click the FOLDERS button on the VIEWS bar, then click the discussion web folder in the FOLDERS LIST, Front Page will display all posts in the CONTENTS window - this allows you to view not only the filename of each post, but the title [subject], time, etc.

Posts can be edited/deleted/etc. from this view.

Response to question two:

To answer [reply] to particular post, simply follow the REPLY hyperlink at the top of the page, under the header. This provides a "threaded" format.

Hopefully this helped, albeit very untimely.

bobclone, that was very helpful, may be you can answer this question for me. when clicking on the reply link I can see it launches the discussion form with a parameter of the thread being replied to. my question is: how can I get it to launch in a particluar frame, it keeps tyaking over the page!
