The New sms 2003 is being problematic. It has discovered all of the Active Directory Users/groups but will not show any systems other than site systems.

I have run all of the types of discovery and they just cant pick out the systems (except the site system). I have installed a few clients manually and re-run the discoveries, but no luck.

Any help greatly appreciated, this one has been very painful for a very long time. I'm ready to give up on sms altogether

Hey There,

Don't give up! SMS is a great product! As far as your machine accounts not showing up in AD, I assume that you've tried to update the 'ALL SYSTEMS' collection. Right click on this collection, chose all tasks, update collection membership. Then right click again and chose refresh. I know I had issues and overlooked this (simple as it seems).

You might also want to look at the scheduling of your discovery. You might also want to even try using network discovery on a few subnets.

-Hope this helps,
Matt

Thanks for the help, I genuinely appreciate it.

As for the problem of not finding Systems...it appears to have mysteriously resovled itself. I came back in this morning and it has found all of the site systems (even a few that no longer exist, but that still have an entry in the AD)

This was really wierd, it found nothing for a week and then one day POOF! everything was there.

Thanks again for the response, its nice to see that there are ppl out there who still help out.

PS
Let me know if you have any SQL 2000 or .NET questions, that is where my expertise/certifications are.

Hey There,

Thanks for the offer. I am actually in need of some assistance. I currently am implementing SMS 2003 accross my desktop environment. I've got an issue though. The Macintosh platform is simply not supported out of the box for SMS 2003 and I need to quickly come up with a solution. I've looked into plug in tools for SMS to integrated our Macintosh machines into SMS but i've been unsuccessful in my attempts.

Currenlty we use LANDesk to inventory, remote control and distribute patches to our Macintosh platform. We are not pleased with LANDesk, hence we are going with SMS 2003. like sms, landesk also has an SQL 2000 backend. I had an idea regarding somehow integrating the SMS and LANDesk database to allow me to somehow report on all platforms.

Im wondering how difficult this would be and what would be involved in integrating them. What are you initial thoughts?
Your feedback is greatly appreciated. If you could, please send me an email at mnt25@drexel.edu so we can communicate through this channel.

Thanks,
Matt
