I have Arcserv 9.0 running on Win2000 Server with an IBM 4560 DLT Tape Library. Purchased DR for Windows.
I wish to make images of my servers to restore if disaster occures. I wish to store those images to tape. I wish to create a bootable CD for the servers. I wish my dog would quit killing my grass. I wish you fine folks would assist me in this endeavor.
ps. What is advantage in DR over Ghost?

Thanks. Keven

Kev,
In order for the grass to stop being killed by the dog, you must kill the dog.
Arcserve disaster recovery is pretty straight forward. And I might add is very well documented on support.ca.com. The most important thing to remember is when you are creating a backup image is to select the entire machine when you first set up the backup job. Dont be selective, it wont work, Brightstor needs the entire machine selected in order to register it as a recoverable image.
Making a bootable CD is easy as well, you just need to have a copy of the win2000 CD, my personal favorite is just having a machine specific disk, it is easy to create, and only a few clicks to get the machine restored once you boot off that mo...
I am not too familiar with ghost, but I would guess that CA has the advantage because it is tied into the already existing backup system, and the images can be updated weekly, monthly or whatever without have to think about it too much, its just a scheduling issue then... And when you update the recovery images, the machine specific disk will not have to change unless different hardware is present in the machine.
