Hello,

A DR exercise is scheduled to run. Recovering a Networker server is the first step to do in this exercise. The new hardware is definetly different from the Networker server existing in Production. Is there a way, a workaround to copy/recover the Networker server on a different hardware.

Please help as this is a crucial step and the whole exercise rely on this first step.

Hello,
different hardware is ok so far but what about operating system is this different?

to get the NetWorker up and running with the old config on the new server should not be a problem.

Install NetWorker server software on the new server
stop the services on both NetWorker server
DELETE the nsrdb folder on the new server
than copy the nsrdb from old to new server
copy also the mm and the index folder to the new server
start the services ONLY on the new server.
HOWEVER don't start the services on both servers at the same time if one can reach the other over the network because both will be disabled in case of same lic informations.

In the Disaster Recovery isolated location , the same OS (Windows 2003 SP1) and the same Networker version (7.4.3) build 589 and same Networker Management Console version 3.4.3 Build 589 will be installed.

1-Stop the Networker services on the new Networker server
2-Delete the nsrdb on the new Networker server
3-Copy first only the nsrdb folder
4-Copy the folders: mm and all the indexes to the new Networker server (same location as on the old server)
5-Restart the services
6-Reboot?
This will bring back the Networker server with all indexes and from that Networker server we can recover our other clients(i.e: Active directory, dns, exchange, etc;;???

Can you please confirm the procedure above.

This is so easy!! how come EMC and Microsft does not mention that and it suggested that you must have exactly the same hardware.

please let me know.

If you install NW to the same directory, the procedure is correct in principle. You will just need the nsr directories res, mm & index (assuming you did not move any CFI to anyther location).

In detail, it might be a bit more tricky if you think about the backup hardware that will be involved, their drivers, device names etc. - so it could become more complicated.

In fact, the reboot in the end is not necessary.

All my indexes are on the D: drive except the Networker server indexes and some other(Fake used when upgrading to 7.4.3). If I move these indexes to the same location you think it will be a problem?.

What if I copied the driver over to the new server??Regarding the devices , I won't be using a jukebox I have access to a tape drive only.

Your comments please. Very much appreciated.
