How do you recover Exchange 5.5 distrbution groups on a Windows NT domain.

Exchange 5.5 uses Distribution Lists, totally unrelated to NT 4 groups, and they live in the Exchange Directory. So you're going to need to do a server restore.

I did a full restore of the Exchange 5.5 Directory Service to the same server and now none of my Exchange services will start...........HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your DS need to start first. If it doesn't, try to run the patch command.

\exchsrvr\bin\isinteg.exe -patch

I got the following error message:
The private store could not be updated. Reason : DS_E_COMMUNICATIONS_PROBLEM
