I just had two hard drives in my RAID5 go out at once. It was an old server and probably a stuck fan let the drives overheat. Anyway, RAID5 can't recover from this situation, so I have to restore from tape.
Can I restore my Backup Exec NW tapes on Backup Exec NT?
What special steps do I need to take? (I know that permissions and trustee rights will be lost)
Replacing the broken drives and reloading the old NW server is going to take some time, as some of the serial numbers are burried, and we have been planning to migrate off this server anyway. I have another Backup Exec 8.5 for NT on our Exchange 5.5 server. If I move the SCSI card, and install the tape drive on the Exchange server, can Backup Exec 8.5 inventory and restore files stored on the Backup Exec 7.5 Netware tapes? If not, what (other than a new BENW server) can read the Netware tapes?
The server was a Netware 4.2 server with Backup Exec 7.5. It backed up itself as well as a number of other Netware servers onto an HP Surestor dat24x6 autoloader. The server I want to use to restore is NT 4.0 with Backup Exec 8.5 for NT.
