Disappearing Emails!!!!!

I have now had 4 PC's of different brands, running different software, have some or all of the emails disappear from Outlook Express!!
They can receive new emails and send OK but sometimes when you open OE all emails in the Inbox are gone! (Not even in deleted items).
Has also happened to emails in other folders.
On one PC running a new installation of Windows XP Pro I tried to import emails. They got imported OK but closed OE and reopened it and all emails gone.

Any ideas??
 
Do you by chance have any "Rules" set that are re-directing mail to folders or deleting mail?

 
Or

Have you given permissions to your mailbox to someone else who may be deleting your mail?

No rules set and view is set to Show all messages.
PC's are standalone and only one person uses them.

I saw it happen myself.
I downloaded new messages and 5 or 6 new emails arrived.
I then closed Outlook express and reopened it and these new messages were gone! I had not even read them yet!

I have since also had a similer sort of problem on a new PC
with Windows XP Pro. I imported the clients old emails into OE6 and it did it OK - made all their old folders etc etc. But on restarting OE all emails in all folders were gone and some of their folders were gone as well and others in the wrong place IE: A folder that was under Inbox was moved to sent items folder etc etc. This PC also did the same as above - new emails disappearing.

The other PC's are running W2k and Outlook Express 5.5 SP2
and one is runnging Win98SE.

Are you veiwing the email by date received ? make sure that the "Received" buton is listing the mail in descending order with newest mail listed first and that you are at the top of the page.

If they are sorted by content or description this could cause them to disappear out of view.

Nice try but "That's not it!"

All emails are disappearing not just unread ones.

I have started hearing more stories by word of mouth about other people that are having the same problem. Mainly with Windows XP I think.
 
Have you got autoarchiving options setup?
 
I fixed it!

After a bit of research I found out that all the PC's that were having this problem were all running McAfee VirusScan.
I have since found a patch on McAfees website that fixes this problem of deleted emails!
