Disabling some proxy settings

Not sure if this is the right forum. I currently have a proxy server at work, which works (although not always) great. I wanted to stop certain addresses from going to the proxy server though. I mainly run MS operating systems verying from 98-2000. I went into proxy settings for my machine and added the url addresses that should not go to the proxy server, however that did not work. Can anyone help me?
