Disabling Smart Linking from Database Expert 1

Hello. I'm using CR 9 and I would like to disable auto-link/smart linking feature. Sometimes in database expert, the links are auto-linked once I enter Database Expert which I do not want. However, I would like to be able to set the links to auto-link the fields that I prefer. I know it's possible to Auto-Link "By Name" or "By Key" which I do not want. Thanks in advance.

I am not clear on what you want. Do you want to disable auto smart linking altogether, or change the way it works?

You can 'Clear All' when the links are unwanted. I don't know of any way to control it better than that.

You can disable smart linking entirely. I believe that is a registry setting in v9.

Thanks for the feedbacks. The problem I'm running into is once I have all of the fields linked correctly, sometimes when I re-enter the database expert, the unwanted fields are auto-linked which I do not want. If there's no way I can set the auto-linking to my preference, then I would like to disable it all together. Thanks.

Again it is a registry setting, I cannot say which exact key because I do not own crystal 9. Are you familiar with regedit? I would run it and search for "AutoSmart" and see what you find.

This is the reg setting for (not so) smart linking in v10. I'm not sure it's the same setting in v9

- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Crystal Decisions10.0\Crystal Reports\DatabaseOptions

- Right-click the 'DoAutoSmartLinking' string value then click 'Modify'.

- Type 'No' in the 'Value data' text box then click 'OK'. Close the Registry Editor.

Don't know about CR 9 but in CR8.5, you can click on file->Options->Database and uncheck the Auto-Smart linking

I will go into REGEDIT and disable the smart linking. From CR 9, the option to disable auto-smart linking is not available. Thanks.

In 9 and 10 this IS available, but not within crystal, only if you edit the registry.

For version 9, I believe there is no way to disable smart auto-linking feature. I looked in the registry and unfortunately that option is not available. If it is, please let me know where it is located. I was not able to locate it under Database Option either in the registry. Thanks.

I found "DoSmartLinkingByKey" under the key. Thanks so much. I hope this will work.

There is no way to disable this. I tried and tried. But with no luck.
