Is there some way of preventing IE from showing the dropdown list of all text previously entered into the field with focus? If the history is long, it can be a real performance hit...

I have a HTML chat application and the chat field has a very very long history. On clients with a old PC, it almost kills their whole computer! Miles

You can delete them. If I understand the problem right!
Drop down the list, highlight the one you want and press delete!!

No i think you've misunderstood me. Here is an example: you go to a site and in a field enter an email address, then submit the form for whatever reason. Next time you go to enter an email address into a field, once you have typed a character in IE displays a dropdown under the field with a history of text that has been entered into the same field previously. This is an option in IE, but I don't want users to have to manually disable it, I want IE to ignore the field and not show the history of entered text...

Does that make sense? Miles

Hi,

Yep it made sense. You can do what I said and manually delete them but it will just build the history again.

I presume what you need is some java to stop it recording the entered text. Sorry I couldnt help. I'll have a search on a few sites for some script to do that.

If you want to turn this feature off completely:

- Start MSIE
- TOOLS|INTERNET OPTIONS
- Click on Content tab
- Click on Auto Complete button
- Un-check all the boxes
- You may also want to delete the forms (Click Clear Forms, Clear Passwords Buttons. Do it 2-3 times)
- Hit OK
- Hit Apply
- Hit OK

That's it.

Hope this helps!
