Is it possible to disable devices such as floppy drives and cdroms using group policy ? If so how is this achieved ?

Yes it is. Within the Group Policy snap-in, expand down into User configuation-> Admin Templates-> Windows Explorer-> Hide these specified drives in My Computer. Then enable that and choose the appropriate drives....

Thanks,
