Hi Gang

I have activeX controls that we are using for an application. The controls will be run from a server local to the machine, MS PSW or IIS. We are going to send an eval version to a potential client and would like it to time out after 10 days. Is there a way to prevent them from turning back the time on their computer and running the e-val after the expiry?

You could have a ragistry setting and increment this everytime the control is used on a different day to the last day it was used (so you would have to store that as well) and when the count gets to 10 deny access.
This will allow them to use the controls over a longer period than 10 days, but they will only be able to use the control for 10 days (if you see what I mean).
OR, you could store the first and last dates and times the control was used. Compare the current date / time to the first date used to see if you are in the 10 day evelualtion period and compare the last date used to the current date / time and if the current is before the last deny access (as they will have changed their system clock).

Hi Simmon

I found a free ocx for accomplishing just what i was looking for. It's called activelock and I got it from There seems to be a missing background on the site so you get white text on a white background. Only took me a few hours to get it up and running, if that.
