i need to disable a user from receiving e-mail, yet allow the user to still log into the box (solaris 2.9). is there a way to do this that, when a someone sends mail to this user, they will get a reply that the account doesn't exist? otherwise a way to send it to /dev/null would work i guess. thanks in advance for any help...

Try finding something like "vacation" (my home FreeBSD box has it, my office Linux server has not, no idea about availability for Solaris; but, hopefully, some workalike should exist)

Why not just use the access file? Do you have one of them on Solaris? Haven't played with Sendmail on Solaris for ages ..

if you do, put an entry in the access file something like

usertoblock@company.com REJECT

and what this will do is when the email comes into your company it will send a default message back of mailbox unknown.

You'll need to re-compile the access.db file from the access file using "makemap hash /etc/mail/access.db < access" and make sure you use it in the mail sendmail.cf file.

Hope that purs you in the right direction.
