We have Merlin 3.0 with a T1 and 9 POTS lines. Through an ARS table we have 800 numbers set to go to our POTS lines. If there is a problem with the main POTS lines, you cannot dial an 800 number (which is what you need most of the time). Is there a quick way to send these 800 numbers to the "T" and then switch them back again to POTS when the problem is resolved. TIA for any help.

Sue

No quick way. If the T1 is long distance ONLY - they won't allow a 1-800 call-type to go through - so it has to be routed over the POTs lines - so check this out first. If the T1/PRI service allows 800 numbers - you just need to modify the ARS table(s) that are currently sending those calls via the POTs lines - to send them via T1/PRI.

To send them back over the POTs lines - you will need to modify the settings in ARS again.

As I said upfront - no quicjk and easy way to change the routing.

Alternate routing when lines/trunks fail is NOT a reliable feature on the Legend/Magix. The software is very poorly written. It will continue to try the out-of-service facilities first and will therefore cause a long delay in putting the calls thru and sometimes it gives up. This is the experience I have had trying to use such an arrangement, but maybe someone else has something better to suggest.

Does your DS1 service allow TOLL FREE calls?

If it does, you might try sending those calls on the DS1 first instead of the POTS, and use the POTS for overflo or alternate if the DS1 is out-of-service. The Legend/Magix may work a little better in this type of arrangement because the system "sees" the DS1 status differently. This is how I usually set them up.

Thanks for the answers. I have programmed the table before but it was a couple of years ago. I know I get there through WinsSPM standard. Where do I go from there and does it disable the entire system? Thanks for the help.

Sue

The programming changes would have to be done under Tables, ARS. The specific table(s) to setup/edit depend on the operating system version your processor is running. For example, The Magix R4 version uses Tables 25 and 26 for Long Distance and Local Routing. The Legend operating system uses Tables 17 and 18. You will need to create an Area code Table - with the typical 1-800, etc. area codes.

I have a customer that has long-distance only T1/PRI - which does not allow 1-800 calls. So the PRI channels are in Pool 890 and the Long Distance route under SubA Pools is set to use 890 ONLY for all normal long distance calls (route 251).

The local route uses the SubA pools route 261 which is set to Pool 70 (their POTs lines). I created an Area Code Table 1 - with all of the typical 1-800 area codes. And then setup a route 1,1 to Pool 70 - so that all 1-800 type calls ONLY dial out via Pool 70 - instead of the PRI pool 890.

So to switch back and forth from using the POTs Pool 70 vs the PRI Pool 890 - you would have to change the Pool route 1,1, uses.

I know this sounds rather complex - but it really isn't.
