Is there any way to temporarily stop people from leaving messages in a particular voicmail box but still allow the greeting (someone is on vacation). If not, whats the best way to shutoff the voicemail completely but keeping intact any greetings/messages currently on that extension?

THANKS MUCH!

It depends on the version of mail and the software in the mail. If you have a Voicemail, that is an Applications Module, or NAM, when you use the Alternate greeting you will be prompted to Accept msgs:[Y]. Default is YES. Press CHNG to change to NO, and the mailbox will play a greeting only. If you do not get the Accept msgs: prompt, then the software in the NAM does not support it. I don't have the reference books in front of me, but I think only NAM3 & NAM4 support it.
The Startalk Flash mail does not support this feature.

Do you have a NAM or a Startalk Flash?

If you have a NAM:
Go into the mailbox and change the greeting from primary to alternate and change accept messages to N:
Press F981 then password
Press ADMIN or 8
Press GREET or 2
Press CHOOSE or 2
Press ALT or 2 to choose alternate greeting ( this will
have to be recorded if it hasn't already)
You will see 'Accept msgs:Y' press CHNG to toggle from
yes to no.

If you have a Startalk Flash:
I am 99 percent sure the above feature is not available, so if you don't want any messages left in that mailbox and still want to keep the exsisting messages and greetings then delete the extension assigned to the mailbox ( this will cause all calls ringing this phone to go to the general delivery mailbox - if enabled)
Press F983 then password - usually 1020000
Press MBOX
Press CHNG
enter the mailbox number
display will show 'Password' press NEXT
display will show 'Ext:XXX' press CHNG
Press # button
display will show 'Service class:X'
Press Rls button
To change it back do the above and add the extension at the 'Ext:' prompt.

You may not be able to delete the extension assigned by pressing the # button- if so, then just enter an extension number not being used.
