g'day again =)

how can i disable a system beeps (f.e. when tab is pressed ...) ?

thanx a lot! lnx

I'm interested in this question too, but I want to ENABLE beeps :).
I compiled my kernel with system-speaker as module, but after

> modprobe pcspkr

I don't get beeps nontheless.

Perhaps setting your $TERM to 'linux -vb' will diable the beeps.
It's reported to make a visible beep, which should be some kind of flash, and is of course more friendly if you're hacking in a train, bureau, or the sleepingroom.

My term-variable is set to 'linux' without 'vb' but not beeping either.

I found another hint, which seems to work.

In your home - directory, there might be a file:

.inputrc

If not, create it.
Then insert the line:

set bell-style none

If the bell is silent after new login, give me an asterix :)

Or modify the system-wide file
/etc/inputrc
the same way.
