i'm trying to re-install my mailing software "Mail-Gear" according to the instructions i have to disable any SMTP and POP3 servers running.
Any ideas?

Hi Penk,
if you have not done so there shouldn't be any POP3 or SMTP server installed on your NT machine.

Check it anyway like this:
for SMTP: telnet [your_ip] 25
for POP3: telnet [your_ip] 110

If you get an answer like "220 ... SMTP server ready" there is one running...
Look at control panel/services if there is service running with a similar name like the answer you got above and stop it for testing. Run telnet again.

SteelBurner

Nice one Steelburner, just what i needed.

i think i'll have to check what else i can do with telnet....

thanks again
