I have SCO Openserver 5. Can someone help to disable routed and gated? I copied the file /etc/gated.rip to /etc/gated.conf, so now system is not running routed but gated. but if /etc/gated.conf does not exist, it runs routed.
I have looked in the /etc/rc2.d/S85tcp.. there are some scripts file that direct it to start routed and gated. The lines start with if and fi statements. When I rem those lines out, the system is not pingable from systems outside of its subnet and vice versa.
Thanks in advance.

BarefootDN,

Unless I guess incorrectly, I don't think you can expect not to run 'routed' and still be able to ping systems outside of your subnet - is that what you are trying to do?

If not, why do you want to disable it?

Annihilannic.

Hie,

Wouldn't it be smarter/cleaner to disable whatever services you do not need from the /etc/services. Just recall, we may just not be aware that we need the particular services until you take them off.

If I could get what you would to achieve (not simply disabling to two daemons) maybe I could help better.

Do you use your SCO box in any way for routing? Do you have another routing mechanism in place?
